AJAX AJAX - Asynchronous JavaScript and XML Introduction and History

Asynchronous data retrieval with XMLHttpRequest. AJAX is a group of technologies used to create asynchronous web applications. AJAX provides for areas of a web page to be updated with data retrieved from a server and eliminates the need for a full screen refresh.

Note: Adobe (Dreamweaver) has a framework for AJAX called SPRY. However in August 2012 they discontinued support for SPRY and made it available at GitHub. Adobe says they will continue to make contributions to jQuery, but do no further development with Spry. In April 2013 W3Techs put the market share of JQuery at 91.5% and Spry at 1% of websites.
